9th Annual 18th Street Pilsen Open Studios

Over 50 artists’ studios, alternative spaces, galleries, and cafes from around the Pilsen neighborhood will gather once again to host one of the city’s largest independently-produced open studios.

Extending from Western Ave. to Halsted (16th St. to 24th St.)
Colibri Studio Gallery will serve as the central hub, offering maps, information, and will also be the boarding and departing point for special buses dropping off visitors to the different sites.
Mural Walks on Sunday, October 16
1pm, 3pm, and 5pm, led by artist Jose Guerrero
Free Dia de Los Muertos workshops co-hosted by Colibri Studio/Gallery and Pros Arts Studio, where participants can make large-scale puppets, decorated carts, and procession props such as banderitas de papel picado, noisemakers, cempaxuchil paper flowers and masks.
Pilsen Soundtrack 2 CD Release Party on Saturday, October 15 at the APO Community Arts & Cultural Center (1436 W. 18th St.)
A compilation CD and arts booklet featuring 14 artists and musical acts ranging from hip-hop, reggae, bomba, and classical music, the event will serve as the Official After-Party for Pilsen 18th St. Open Studios.
Participating Artists: Angel Silva, Alex Velazquez, Gerry Lang, Roberto Ferreyra, Hector Duarte, Anthony Robert La Penna, Omar Valencia, John Pitman Weber, Pablo Serrano, Angela Scalisi, Nicole Marroquin, Diana Solis, Jeff Abbey Maldonado, Jackie Orozco, Chris Urias, Al Di Franco, Antonio Martinez, Janet Fecteau, Nikki Lewis, Guillermo Delgado, Rhamaan Barnes, Eric Garcia, Delilah Perez, Kathy Steichen, and many more.
Participating Spaces and Galleries: Casa de Cultura Calles y Sueños, Roxaboxen Exhibitions and Studios, Cobalt Studio, Yollocalli Arts Reach, Prospectus Gallery, Tonantzin, Carlos and Dominguez Fine Arts Gallery, Oxala Fine Arts and Colby Gallery.
Participating Cafes and Restaurants: Efebinas Cafe, Jumping Bean, Café Mestizo, Kristoppher’s Café and Bakery, De Colores Restaurant and Fogata Village showing local Pilsen artists.

Pilsen Open Studios is part of Chicago Artists Month 2011, the sixteenth annual celebration of Chicago’s vibrant visual art community presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and the Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture.
