Approaching the Mexican Revolution: Books, Maps, Documents

October 19, 2010 – January 8, 2011

Curated by Oscar Alatriste Guzmán, Academic Director of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México en Chicago (UNAM Chicago), the show displays maps, artwork, memoirs, photographs, and other sources from the Newberry’s collections about the Revolution and its consequences. The exhibition highlights several prints by José Guadalupe Posada, including his famous “La Soldadera Maderista.” The show reveals different points of view about the Revolution through a variety of sources: early Mexican and American intellectuals’ interpretations, foreign visitors’ observations, popular and scholarly biographies, and maps that illustrate American intervention in Mexico during the Revolution and U.S. business interests there.
