Xavier Toubes Art Exhibit “Lustre” (sculpture & work on paper)
Xavier Toubes – A Coruña, Spain. Worked in an international bank in Spain and London until 1974 and studied at Goldsmith’s College University of London and Alfred University, New York. He was a professor of art at UNC Chapel Hill, 1983-93. He has exhibited frequently in both the U.S. and Europe and also in Asia, and has lectured at numerous universities and international forums. He has been a member of the International Academy of Ceramics (Geneva, Switzerland) since 1986. His awards include a grant from the Ministry of Culture of Spain and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. In 1989, he became involved in the creation of the European Ceramics Work Centre in Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, and was the Artistic Director from its opening in 1991 until the autumn of 1999, when he started teaching at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work is in private and public collections in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
