Colombian Music Festival 2010
Macondo Colombian Coffee & Empanadas is proud to announce Chicago’s first ever Colombian Music Festival. (website coming soon)
July 1-26, 2010.
In honor of Colombia’s Bicentennial, enjoy over twenty different live music events throughout the month, featuring some of the newest and biggest names in Colombian music.
This momentous event will feature five groups directly from Colombia, as well as top talent from across the U.S. and Chicago.
The Chicago Colombian Festival has something for everyone. It features both traditional and contemporary Colombian music, DJ events, workshops/dance classes, and radio specials as well as a great balance of free shows, paid shows, indoor shows, outdoor shows, family-friendly shows, dinner shows and nightclub shows.

-July 1st: Batata y Las Ambulancias Alegres direct from Colombia @ Millennium Park, 6:00pm, Free (Short performance). Presented by Music Without Borders
-July 2: Batata y Las Ambulancias Alegres direct from Colombia @ Logan Square Auditorium, 9:00pm (Full concert), $10 adv/$12 door, 18+. Presented by Macondo and Sound Culture
-July 3: “Carpacho” Marin and Yankatino free dinner show (Salsa & Latin Jazz) @ Las Tablas Irving Park, 7:30pm-10:30pm, No Cover. Presented by Macondo
-July 6: Musical Tour of Colombia Vol. 1 (Radio Show) @ 88.5 FM WHPK with host DJ Leo Suarez. 5:00pm-6:00pm. Streaming live worldwide at www.whpk.org. Presented by “Chicago is the World” global music radio program.
-July 9: Samuel del Real Trio free dinner show (Salsa & Latin Jazz) @ Las Tablas Lincoln Ave. 7:30pm-10:00pm. Presented by Macondo

-July 18: Grupo Rebolu from NYC @ Central Stage of Evanston Arts Festival, 1:30pm, free. Presented by Evanston Arts Festival and the City of Evanston.
-July 19: Colombian Cumbia drum and dance workshop @ Africaribe Cultural Center, 3 classes between 7:00pm – 10:00pm, $7/class. Featuring percussion and dance instruction with members of Ngoma Alegre Percussion Ensemble and Tierra Colombiana Folkloric Dance Company. Presented by Macondo and the Africaribe Cultural Center.
-July 20: Colombian Independence Day/Bicentennial Ceremony @ Millennium Park. 6:00pm-7:00pm, free. Featuring 20 min presentations by Nilko Andreas Guarin (Colombian singer and guitarist from NYC) and Grupo Cumbe (Chicago based Colombian Cumbia band). Presented by the Colombian Consulate of Chicago.
-July 21: Lisandro Meza, a living legend of Colombian Cumbia and Vallenato @ Old Town School of Folk Music. 8:00pm-10:00pm, $30. Also featuring appearances by Grupo Cumbe and Tierra Colombian Folkloric Dance Company. Presented by World Music Wednesdays at Old Town School, The International Latino Cultural Center and Macondo.
-July 23: EnsAmble Ad Hoc (Andean Colombian String Music) @ Casa Michoacán 1638 S. Blue Island Ave. Chicago, IL 60608, 7:00-9:00pm

-July 23: Carnaval de Barranquilla in July-themed party @ Las Tablas Irving Park. Featuring Juvenato (Chicago-based Vallenato group) and Grupo Cumbe (Chicago-based Colombian Cumbia group)10:00pm – 2:00am, $5. Presented by Macondo.

-July 25: La Sonora Carruseles direct from Colombia @ Excalibur, 8:00pm-2:00am. $18 adv/$25 door, 21+. Also featuring a live set by Grupo Cumbe and DJs Steven & Leo Suarez. Presented by Macondo and Latin Street Dancing in association with Albert Torres Productions.

-July 25: Bomba Estereo direct from Colombia @ Millennium Park. 6:00pm, free (short performance). Presented by Music Without Borders.
-July 26: Official closing concert w/ Bomba Estereo direct from Colombia @ Green Dolphin. 8:00pm-2:00am, $10 adv/$15 door, (Age TBA). Also featuring opening group TBA and DJ Leo Suarez. Presented by Macondo and RATIOnation.
-July 30: Festival wrap party @ NV Penthouse. 9:00pm-2:00am, $7, 21+. Featuring various DJs spinning classic and contemporary Colombian dance music such as Salsa, Vallenato, Cumbia, and Champeta, as well as Colombian Reggae, House & Electronica. Presented by Macondo and Mamu Events.

Venues include: The Jay Ptrizker Pavilion at Millennium Park, Green Dolphin Street, Excalibur, Old Town School of Folk Music, Logan Square Auditorium, The central stage at the Evanston Arts Festival and both locations of Las Tablas Colombian Steakhouse.
