Dale Kavanagh: The Segovia Classical Guitar Series

The Segovia Classical Guitar Series, presented by Northwestern and the Chicago Classical Guitar Society, is the Chicago area’s only full season of classical guitar artists. The 2009 series features award-winning guitarist Dale Kavanagh, the Canadian Guitar Quartet presenting a new collaborative performance with DanceWorks Chicago, series regular Oscar Ghiglia, and baroque lutenist and guitarist Hopkinson Smith.

Canadian-born guitarist Dale Kavanagh has established herself as a vital presence in the guitar scene. Her rich tone and insightful interpretations have captivated audiences throughout Europe, the United States, and Canada. A top prize-winner in Italy’s Gargnano Competition, Spain’s Segovia Competition, Switzerland’s Neuchatel Competition, and Finland’s Scandinavian Competition, she also performs internationally in the Amadeus Guitar Duo with German guitarist Thomas Kirchhoff. Germany’s Rheinlandpfalz Zeitung describes her as “a romantic who thoughtfully takes the works that she interprets to heart.” Her Northwestern debut includes works by Berkeley, Domeniconi, Diabelli, Milhaud, Villa-Lobos, and Kavanagh herself.

Tickets are $19 for the general public, $16 for seniors and Northwestern faculty and staff, and $8 for students.

Single tickets on sale December 3, 2008.
