PILSEN OPEN STUDIOS 2011
Featured Artists ERIC GARCIA & FRANK DIAZ
I have always considered artists to represent the conscience of society. ERIC GARCIA is such an artist. In his words, “I want to create a dialogue about the issues that have shaped our history, and in turn, shape our future. My visual style has been shaped by the early childhood influences of comic books, and later by Colonial Baroque paintings, and indigenous iconography. I fuse these different styles with the use of graphic lines, satirical caricatures and text, all placed within dramatic settings. I consider my art an historically based, politically charged criticism, with the goal of challenging the viewer and creating dialogue about difficult and complicated issues.”
FRANK DIAZ is a sculptor whose creations are at once formal in technical skill, yet whimsical in creative vision. They charm you while you admire the difficult work of the sculptor. Sculptors must not only think in three dimensions, but then execute their visions onto unforgiving stone, wood, and other media.
