How To Cross A Border

Tim Parsa 2008  Documentary Feature
Run time: 70 min. | Mexico
The documentary tells the story of two very different men – a well-heeled American expatriate living in Mexico City and a Mexican horse groom who is intent on entering the U.S. to work, despite his lack of a visa. What begins as a chronicle of the expatriate sub-culture in Mexico City evolves into a fast-paced road movie as the American (who has decided to leave Mexico) attempts to locate the Mexican (who wants to continue working for the American) and convince him not to set out on the dangerous trek across the Sonora desert. How To Cross A Border is a vivid illustration of the market forces, dangers and moral reckoning that surround undocumented immigration from Mexico to the U.S. Through the evolution of the relationship between the Mexican and the American, the film also demonstrates how the cultural gulf that separates even the most disparate of men can be crossed if each decides to understand and help the other.
