La Mallorquina, an extremely popular establishment in the heart of Madrid, has existed since 1894. The portraits of two employees, the manager and the boss reflect – just as the site itself – the spirit, history and contradictions of Spain, the clash of tradition and modern age. At the same time, the repressed past also surfaces: the time of the civil war and dictatorship. In addition, the problems of today’s time are mentioned: precarious working conditions, globalization and immigration.
