Grupo Rebolú (Afro-Colombian)
In Celebration of the Grand Opening of Macondo!
Sponsored by Arte y Vida Chicago
Directly from New York City, Grupo Rebolú specializes int the traditional sounds of the Carribean coast of Colombia. Founded by childhood friends Moris Cañate and Ronald Polo, both of the Grammy-nominated N.Y.C. based Folklore Urbano, Revolú features original compositions set to traditional rhythms as well as a repertoire of songs hundreds of years old. Cañate and Polo have traveled all over Europe, Asia, and the Americas since childhood, playing with an ensemble which accompanied the President of Colombia on diplomatic visits. Grupo Rebolú represents the authentic roots Afro-Colombian folklore on a level of skill and quality unparalleled in North America. All members of the band have grown up in families of musical tradtion, and have been playing this music since childhood. Rebolú does not limit itself to folklore however. They are able to effortlessly incorporate other genres of Colombian and Latin American music such as Vallenato, Salsa, and even Calypso into their sound. The final result when Rebolú is firing on all cylinders is a musical and cultural experience like absolutely no other, an experience one has to see to believe.
