La Nación Huichol: from the sea to the desert
The exhibition examines the ancient culture of the Huichol and their journeys through ritual landscapes by means of documentary photography and artwork from the last hundred years. According to an article in the London Times, “[the Huichol]…can justifiably claim to be the only indigenous tribe left in the entire continent of North America whose culture remains intact.” Nonetheless, their way of life is threatened by deforestation, the construction of new highways, and persistent strip-mining efforts.
Opening Reception: Friday, January 21, 2011
6-8 PM
The exhibition runs through August 7, 2011.
