Lecture: Segundo Ruiz Belvis

Segundo Ruiz Belvis was a member of the secret abolitionist society in Puerto Rico that bought and freed slave children.  This secret society contributed greatly to the end of slavery in Puerto Rico in 1873.

Professor Mario Cancel is one of the most important Segundo Ruiz Belvis biographers in Puerto Rico. He is the author of the critically acclaimed book on Segundo Ruiz Belvis: “El Procer y el ser Humano” (1992).
