From December 5 through 29, the Gene Siskel Film Center in collaboration with Pragda, presents the Festival of New Spanish Cinema 2008. The series offers a first-rate selection of vibrant, artful, and eclectic recent films, many international award winners, representing dramatic, comic, and experimental styles.

Nominated in six categories for Spain’s Oscar-equivalent Goya Award, MATAHARIS dives into the complicated lives of three female private investigators. Ambitious Inés (Vázquez) works undercover at a corporation, ostensibly to weed out corruption but in fact to spy on union operatives. Eva (Nimri) recently back from maternity leave, accidentally discovers a secret her partner has long kept from her.
