2007, Icíar Bollaín, Spain, 95 min.
With María Vázquez, Najwa Nimri, Nuria González
“A sharp eye for a good story…a private eye movie that makes us ponder the morality of that eye.”—Graham Keeley, Hollywood Reporter
Nominated in six categories for Spain’s Oscar-equivalent Goya Award, MATAHARIS dives into the complicated lives of three female private investigators. Ambitious Inés (Vázquez) works undercover at a corporation, ostensibly to weed out corruption but in fact to spy on union operatives. Eva (Nimri) recently back from maternity leave, accidentally discovers a secret her partner has long kept from her. Carmen (González) sees reflections of her own loveless marriage in her current investigation of an adultery case. In Spanish with English subtitles. 35mm.—description courtesy of Pragda
