Octavio Paz would often contemplate with the intellect’s eye, but also with the heart’s. His fascinating journey through the sea of poetry and essay writing helped unfold in him a type of personality rarely seen, even among those disciples and erudite friends closest to him. From among the various facets of this great poet, stand out his passion for philosophical reflection, his anthropological approaches to understanding “the true nature of things”, the intertextual conversations which took him to absorb from, as well as to enrich, an aesthetic movement as vital as Surrealism was during a great part of the XX Century; and yet…Do we remain with a Paz who allows himself to be caressed in the body and soul of his poems, or with the one who philosophizes enigmatically?
