Whether they are exploring the songs of the Aztec people or teaching the whole family about Mexican history, Sones demonstrates that there is more to Mexican music than just mariachi.
You may remember Sones from their Mexican folk retoolings of Zeppelin’s “Four Sticks” and Bach’s “Brandenburg 3-2” on their Grammy nominated album Esta Tierra Es Tuya (This Land Is Your Land). The band now digs deep into Mexican folklore on their new album, Fiesta Mexicana.
The album addresses a “gap in quality educational programming,” says producer and bassist Juan Díes. “Parents and educators often complain about the lack of quality programs and materials to help kids of Mexican ancestry maintain a connection to their family’s roots,” says Díes. “Our response is Fiesta Mexicana.”
